Mentawai Interior Expedition

These Terms & Conditions govern the contractual relationship between Kawanden Tour & Travel (“Kawanden”, “we”, “our”, “us”) and the participant (“you”, “the client”).

By making a booking and/or participating in this expedition, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to all terms stated below.

1. Nature of the Expedition

The Mentawai Interior Expedition is classified as a remote adventure and cultural immersion journey, involving travel to isolated rainforest areas with limited infrastructure and services.


Participants acknowledge that:

      • Conditions may be unpredictable
      • Comfort standards differ significantly from conventional tourism
      • Access to emergency services is limited

2. Booking, Payment & Contract

    • A booking is considered confirmed only after receipt of the required deposit or full payment.
    • The contract becomes legally binding once payment is received and confirmation is issued.
    • All prices are subject to change due to fuel costs, weather conditions, transportation availability, or local operational factors beyond our control.
    • Any amendments must be agreed in writing by Kawanden.

3. Itinerary Flexibility & Force Majeure

  • All itineraries are indicative and subject to change without prior notice.
  • Kawanden reserves the right to modify routes, schedules, accommodation, transportation, or activities when required for safety, weather, sea conditions, local community circumstances, or operational necessity.
  • Kawanden shall not be held liable for delays, cancellations, or changes caused by force majeure, including but not limited to:
  1. Weather and sea conditions
  2. Natural disasters
  3. Government regulations
  4. Transportation disruptions


No refunds shall be issued for itinerary changes resulting from force majeure events.


4. Health, Fitness & Medical Disclosure

  • Participants must be in good physical and mental health.
  • The expedition includes trekking, river travel, exposure to heat, humidity, insects, and physically demanding conditions.
  • You are responsible for disclosing any medical conditions, allergies, or limitations prior to departure.
  • Kawanden reserves the right to deny participation if a participant’s condition poses a safety risk to themselves or others.

5. Risk Acknowledgement & Assumption of Risk

You acknowledge that adventure travel inherently involves risks, including but not limited to:

      • Physical injury
      • Illness
      • Environmental hazards
      • Transportation risks
      • Limited access to medical facilities

By participating, you voluntarily assume all such risks and agree that Kawanden shall not be held liable except in cases of proven gross negligence under applicable law.


6. Liability Limitation

    • Kawanden acts as an expedition organizer and does not accept responsibility for acts or omissions beyond reasonable control.
    • Kawanden shall not be liable for:
  1. Personal injury, illness, or death
  2. Loss or damage to personal property
  3. Delays or disruptions caused by third parties
  • Liability, where applicable, shall be limited to the total amount paid for the expedition.

7. Insurance Requirement

Participants are strongly advised to obtain comprehensive travel insurance covering:

  • Medical treatment
  • Emergency evacuation
  • Trip cancellation or interruption
  • Personal liability

Proof of insurance may be requested prior to departure.


8. Cultural Conduct & Community Respect

  • Participants must comply with all cultural guidelines provided by local guides.
  • Respect for Mentawai customs, rituals, spiritual practices, and tattoo traditions is mandatory.
  • Photography, filming, and participation in ceremonies require explicit permission.
  • Failure to comply may result in removal from activities without refund.

9. Responsible & Ethical Travel

Kawanden operates under strict responsible tourism principles:

  • Fair engagement with local communities
  • Environmental protection
  • Cultural preservation
  • Minimal-impact travel

Participants agree to conduct themselves responsibly and in accordance with these principles at all times.


10. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with Indonesian law.
Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Indonesia.

By booking and participating in this expedition, you confirm that you:

      • Understand the nature and risks of the journey
      • Accept these Terms & Conditions in full
      • Agree to travel responsibly and respectfully
